Read and reflect on the scripture.
Numbers 11:24–29 (NIV) 24 So Moses went out and told the people what the LORD had said. He brought together seventy of their elders and had them stand around the tent. 25 Then the LORD came down in the cloud and spoke with him, and he took some of the power of the Spirit that was on him and put it on the seventy elders. When the Spirit rested on them, they prophesied—but did not do so again. 26 However, two men, whose names were Eldad and Medad, had remained in the camp. They were listed among the elders, but did not go out to the tent. Yet the Spirit also rested on them, and they prophesied in the camp. 27 A young man ran and told Moses, “Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp.” 28 Joshua son of Nun, who had been Moses’ aide since youth, spoke up and said, “Moses, my lord, stop them!” 29 But Moses replied, “Are you jealous for my sake? I wish that all the LORD’s people were prophets and that the LORD would put his Spirit on them!”

A. Familiarize yourself with the sermon.
Paul Durbin’s message explains that the Holy Spirit, often compared to a dove, plays key roles in the lives of believers. By breaking down the word DOVE, we understand that the Holy Spirit Draws us into relationship (with Jesus and other believers), Occupies and Overflows in our lives, Veers & Steers us through temptation and challenges, and Empowers us for service and mission. Each function of the Holy Spirit points us toward a deeper, more reliant relationship with Jesus and equips us to live boldly as followers of Christ.
B. Discuss one or more of the following questions.
- How has the Holy Spirit “drawn” you closer to Jesus, especially when you’ve tried to fill your life with other things?
- Paul shared that we all have a God-shaped hole that other things can’t fill, and the Holy Spirit constantly draws us into a relationship with Jesus.
- In your faith journey, where have you felt the Holy Spirit nudging or drawing you toward deeper connection with Jesus or fellow believers?
- In your own life, how do you regularly "be filled" with the Holy Spirit despite feeling drained?
- Paul highlighted that while we all have the Holy Spirit once we believe, life often “leaks” and leaves us needing to be filled again by the Spirit.
- What practices help you stay spiritually full? What could you do this week to intentionally invite more of the Spirit’s presence into your daily life?
- Can you think of a recent moment when the Holy Spirit helped you "veer" away from something harmful or tempted you to sin?
- The Holy Spirit also helps us steer and veer away from the obstacles in our path, showing us a way out when temptation arises.
- How has the Holy Spirit intervened in your life recently? Where do you feel like you need to be more attentive to His guidance?
- In what ways has the Holy Spirit empowered you to serve or step out in faith?
- Paul mentioned how his 84-year-old father serves in various ministries, empowered by the Holy Spirit despite having no formal ministry training.
- Where is the Holy Spirit calling you to step outside your comfort zone and serve or lead in a new way? How can you rely on His strength rather than your own?
- Unity among believers is important to the Holy Spirit. How do you approach disagreements with other Christians while still seeking unity?
- Paul reminded us that Jesus prayed for the unity of His followers as a powerful witness to the world. The Holy Spirit doesn’t form unity around opinions, but around Jesus.
- How do you personally work toward unity in your church or Christian community, even when opinions differ? How can the Holy Spirit help you in this?
